Despite what it looks like on Nightlight, I’ve been a busy guy this year. I turned 32, I travelled to Europe, I met Gabez, I worked full time, I did a lot of journalism work on the side… plus all the stuff that goes along with married life. You guys get it, right?

And then… I’ll be honest with you… it’s really hard to edit together a radio play these days. In the old days (pre 2005) making a radio play involved wandering into the university radio station, bothering the people who work there, and going into a recording studio. That’s where I got my actors from, and editing was a matter of clipping out what works and mixing in sound effects.

These days, living on the other side of the country and using voice talent from all over the world, I get to work with some great talent but editing involves mixing every individual line. It’s a painstaking, slow process that I have little time to devote to.

As much as this sounds like I’m giving up though, I’m not. I love making radio plays too much to throw it away. I’m seven parts through a story that I’m determined to finish, in the least. So what does that mean?

Next year I’m trying something new. It’s too soon to let out too many details, but let’s just say that there will be new radio plays, the way they should be.

The Power of Monkey Island will still be complete, but I’ll be honest – it will probably take me most of the year to get through. The good news is, there’ll be something else.

I’m not making any promises though – I’ve learnt from that mistake! In the meantime, following me on Twitter is a good way to know what I’m up to: I’m @nightlightguy

Beazley is reluctantly convinced that the only way to defeat Howard once and for all lies in undertaking a complete makeover…

A couple of months ago I was digging through an old back-up drive and found an audio file of a half hour radio play, completely recorded but never produced. Seven years to the day of recording, I’m proud to finally bring you Queer Eye for the Straight Prime, the sixth and final installment of The Howard Saga. Howard and Beazley are long since gone from the face of Australian politics (not that these radio plays ever had much relevance to events!), but their memory still remains…

It’s been nearly ten years since I approached the Grim Fandango Network with a handful of scripts and a twinkle in my eye. I was a young, carefree university student, with delusions of humour. Countless broken promises and a handful of radio plays later, and Nightlight is still around, a faintly beating pulse in a dusty corner of The International House of Mojo. No one knows why it’s there, but they don’t have the heart to tell us to leave either…

Since the last activity on Nightlight (May 2010), there’s been many changes in my life. I’ve gotten married, I’ve been working a full time job, I’ve been teaching, I’m freelance writing on the side. My life, if anything, is going to get busier. Despite all of this, I can’t let the Nightlight go.

So with newfound determination, I give you a clean slate Nightlight. Within the next month or so, all the old content will be back online. There will be a repopulated iTunes feed, all in one this time. There will also be at least one new radio play a month – I’m not going to promise any more than that.

In the meantime, please go to Facebook and ‘like’ the new Nightlight group there. Post a comment here to let us know who you are. Heck, dust off the old forums if you feel like posting there. It might be a few designs old, but it still works…
